Iowa Season Odds

Iowa had the defense to win a national title in 2009, but its offense wasn’t up to par. In 2010, the Hawkeyes think they have the right balance to contend for the BCS Championship.

Bet College Football Future Odds

Kirk Ferentz is one of the most respected coaches in college football and his 11-2 record in 2009 despite having an awful offense proved that he is among the best on the sidelines.

This year, in his 12th season at

Iowa
, Ferentz should have another strong defense while his offense has to be better than 2009.

Ricky Stanzi is back at quarterback for

Iowa
. Stanzi was very streaky in 2009 and dealt with injuries late in the year. He still threw for 2,417 yards and 17 touchdowns, but also had 15 interceptions.

Stanzi has his top two receiving options back in Derrell Johnson-Koulianos and Marvin McNutt and also has running back Adam Robinson back for his sophomore season. Johnson was on pace to rush for over 1,000 yards as a freshman before injuring his ankle late in the year.

The offensive line replaces three starters, but retains its left side, which should help protect Stanzi in the pocket.

On defense,

Iowa
brings back eight from a group that allowed just 15.4 points and 277 yards per-game in 2009. The defense is led by its front four, which all returns. Defensive end Adrian Clayborn is back after racking up 70 tackles and 11.5 sacks in 2009.

The Hawkeyes also bring back three starters in the secondary, led by Tyler Sash, and All-Big Ten selection in 2009 after intercepting six passes and making 85 tackles at strong safety.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL currently list

Iowa
at 20/1 to win the 2011 BCS National Championship. The Hawkeyes are also listed at 4/1 to win the Big Ten Conference.

An easy non-conference schedule has one big test for
Iowa, which is traveling to

Arizona
in week three. The conference schedule is very favorable as the lone road games are at
Michigan,
Indiana, Northwestern, and
Minnesota while the Hawkeyes get to host powers
Wisconsin,
Ohio
State
, and

Penn
State
. Due to the scheduling, you have to like

Iowa
as a dark horse to win the Big Ten. This team has already shown it can win big games and all it needs now is for the offense to be mildly productive and it can make a run for it all. If you are looking for a strong bet with a big payout,

Iowa
may be your team.
