Twins Season Odds
The Minnesota Twins are expected to repeat as AL Central champions, but can they stave off the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers? Let’s take a look at their odds.
The Twins added Carl Pavano, Orlando Hudson, Jim Thome and Clay Condrey in the offseason, while also agreeing to minor league deals with Mike Maroth and Jacque Jones. Brendan Harris was signed to a two-year contract extension.
The club was also involved in a couple of trades this winter, acquiring shortstop J.J. Hardy from the Brewers in exchange for outfielder Carlos Gomez, and pitcher Chris Province from the Red Sox for pitcher Boof Bonser.
Along with Gomez and Bonser, the Twins parted with Mike Redmond, Ron Mahay, Joe Crede, R.A. Dickey and Jason Pridie.
After adding Hudson, Hardy and Thome in the offseason, Minnesota is expected to make another postseason run and are the favorites to win the AL Central. They have two MVP-caliber talents in Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau, as well as quality role players in Denard Span, Michael Cuddyer, Jason Kubel and Delmon Young.
The key to the Twins’ success this season depends on their pitching staff. The starting rotation, which is comprised of Scott Baker, Nick Blackburn, Pavano, Kevin Slowey and Francisco Liriano, is more than capable of leading Minnesota back to the playoffs. But will the lack of an ace hurt them in the long run? Will the re-tooled White Sox and scrappy Tigers give the Twins fits? The AL Central is always a crapshoot, but Minnesota is still quality favorites.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sports Interaction have made the Twins 20/1 long shots to win the 2010 World Series and 9/1 to win the American League Pennant. They’re also 1.75/1 to win the AL Central and have an over/under total of 83.5 for total number of wins in 2010.
