Rockies Season Odds
There’s excitement brewing in Colorado this season – and for good reason, as the Rockies could make some noise in 2010. Let’s take a look at their odds.
The Rockies made a couple of moves this offseason, including signing reliever Rafael Betancourt to a two-year deal, as well as catcher Miguel Olivo, first baseman Jason Giambi and third baseman Melvin Mora to one-year contracts. Colorado also signed Huston Street, Todd Helton, Chris Iannetta and Ryan Spilborghs to contract extensions.
The notable losses the Rockies suffered this offseason were Garrett Atkins, Yorvit Torrealba, Jason Marquis, Josh Fogg, Alan Embree, Matt Gerges and Matt Murton.
The Rockies have all the pieces in place to unseat the Dodgers as NL West champions this season. Ubaldo Jimenez, Aaron Cook, Jorge de la Rosa and Jason Hammel compile an underrated front four and if Jeff Francis can rebound from a poor 2009 campaign, then he could help make up for the loss of Marquis.
The Rockies’ mixture of young and veteran offensive talent has people excited too. Helton, Iannetta, Troy Tulowitzki, Dexter Fowler, Clint Barmes and Brad Hawpe give Colorado one of the best offenses in the National League. (Or at least one that can stack up against most offenses in the league.) The Rockies are primed for another postseason appearance and have enough talent to make a World Series run.
Oddsmakers from online sports book BroburySports.com have made the Rockies a 25/1 long shot to win the 2010 World Series and 9/1 to win the NL Pennant. They’re also 2.25/1 to win the NL West and have an over/under of 85 for total regular season wins.
