ST. LOUIS (AP) -Ken Griffey Jr. was a late lineup scratch from the Cincinnati Reds’ lineup on Thursday, apparently related to inflammation of his colon.
Griffey recently missed four starts because of diverticulitis – he had the medical condition diagnosed six months ago. He returned to the lineup Tuesday and hit his first home run of the season and 564th of his career on Tuesday, passing Reggie Jackson for 10th place on the career list.
Josh Hamilton replaced Griffey in right field and Jeff Conine, who had been batting third, moved into Griffey’s cleanup slot.
Griffey was batting .254 with one homer and nine RBIs.
