The big name in American swimming at the Olympic level is Michael Phelps. He won an Olympic record 8 gold medals at the 2008 games and also won six golds at the 2004 games. He is going to be a focal point at this year’s Olympics as well. According to oddsmakers, Phelps is favored in the 100 Butterfly (2/5 odds) and the 200 Butterfly (1/5). He also has very short odds in the 200 IM (11/10) and the 400 IM (1/1). Phelps is the current world champion in the 100 and 200 Butterfly. He is 27 years old as he heads to London.

One of Phelps biggest competitors will be fellow American, Ryan Lochte, who is the favorite to win the 200 IM (4/5), the 400 IM (8/11) along with the 200 Freestyle (10/11) and the 200 Backstroke (4/11). Lochte is 27 years old entering the Olympics and he is a three-time gold medal winner at the games. He won the gold in the 200 backstroke in 2008 and was part of two winning relay teams. He is the current world champion in all of the events he is currently favored to win.

The 2012 Summer Olympics will take place from London, England from July 27 through August 12 of this summer. For the complete odds for each men’s individual swimming event, see below.
