General Quarters Update
One of the biggest odds movers of the 2009 Preakness is General Quarters, who has seen his odds rise from 6/1 at the opening, to the current 22/1.
No other horse in the 134th running of the Preakness Stakes has seen his odds rise like General Quarters, who went from a mid-range favorite at 6/1 to a 22/1 long shot according to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com.
General Quarters had a lackluster showing at this year’s Kentucky Derby, finishing 10th. But the good news is that he has won two races this year, one coming on February 14 at the Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay Downs, and first at the Blue Grass on April 11.
Any way you slice it, General Quarters is going to have his hands full. Rachael Alexandra (8/5), Pioneerof The Nile (5/1), Mine That Bird (6/1) and Friesan Fire (8/1) are going to be tough to beat out of the gates if the weather cooperates.
The 2009 Preakness Stakes takes place today at the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. For complete odds see below, and for general information about this year’s race, be sure to check out our 2009 Preakness Stakes Viewing Guide.
