Ria Antonia Preakness Odds
BALTIMORE, MD (The Spread) – The odds are out for the 2014 Preakness Stakes and as it stands now, Ria Antonia has the toughest challenge entering Saturday’s field.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Ria Antonia is a 32/1 long shot to win this weekend’s Preakness Stakes, making her the biggest long shot in the current field of contenders. 2014 Kentucky Derby contender California Chrome is the current favorite at 5/9, while Social Inclusion and Danza are both 6/1.
Ria Antonia posted a disappointing sixth-place finish in the Grade I Kentucky Oaks, which was her last warmup before the Preakness. Making the finish even more disappointing is that she placed second behind Fashion Plate in the Grade I Santa Anita Oaks in her start previous to the Kentucky Oaks. She also took fourth in the Grade III Rachel Alexandra on February 22.
That said, she does have two victories on her career resume. She won the Breeders Cup Juvenile on November 2 of last year and also took first in a MSW on July 2. But in her other career starts, she finished fifth in the My Dear on July 6, fourth in the Swynford on August 24 and fifth in the Grade I Grizette on October 5.
Her biggest issue might be the distance come Saturday. In her longest race, she finished sixth in the Kentucky Oaks, which is only 8 furlongs in distance. She’ll have to go another 1.5 furlongs to reach the distance of the Preakness, which means she could be in for a long day on Saturday.
The 2014 Preakness Stakes will take place on Saturday, May 17 at 6:20PM ET (post time).
