Indianapolis 500 Odds

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (TheSpread) – The biggest race of the IRL Season is next up as the 2011 Indianapolis 500 is set to take place on Sunday, May 29.

According to oddsmakers at online sports book Bodog.com, Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon are the favorites to win this race with 4/1 odds. Other short odds to win this race are Helio Castroneves (9/2) and Ryan Briscoe (9/2).

Franchitti is a two-time winner of the Indy 500 as he won the title in 2007 and 2010. Franchitti has finished seventh or better in his last 5 Indy 500’s. Franchitti has one win on the year and finished fourth or better in all four IRL races on the year. He is second in the point standings, 14 behind Will Power.

Dixon won the Indy 500 back in 2008 and he has finished in the top 6 of his last five Indy 500’s. Dixon is eighth in the standings. He has one runner-up in four races and he has finished outside the top 10 in all other races.

Castroneves is a three-time Indy 500 winner, taking the title in 2009, 2002, and 2001. He has finished in the top 10 in nine of his 10 Indy 500 appearances. Castroneves is 17^th in the point standings. He has one top 10 on the year.

Briscoe has never won the Indy 500 and he has finished outside of the top 10 in the Indy 500 over the last three years. He currently sits fifth in the point standings and he has finished in the top 3 of his last two races.
