Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Serena Williams a 7/2 favorite heading into Monday’s action. Her sister Venus Williams is a mid-range long shot at 14/1.

Right behind Serena is Kim Clijsters at 3/1 odds to win. Justine Henin is 6/1, Maria Sharapova is 10/1 and Caroline Wozniacki is 16/1 behind Venus Williams at 14/1. The long shots are Svetlana Kuznetsova and Dinara Safina at 20/1, and Victoria Azarenka at 25/1.

It’s no surprise that Serena Williams is the favorite to win this year’s Australian Open, seeing as how she’s won the event four times (2003, 2005, 2007, 2009) and is the defending champion. No other player in this year’s tournament has won multiple tournaments.

Other champions playing in this year’s Austrilian Open besides Serena are Maria Sharapova (2008) and Justine Henin (2004). Venus Williams was also a runner-up in 2003, as was Henin in 2006, Sharapova in 2007 and Safina in 2009.
