WASHINGTON (AP) -Washington Capitals star left wing Alex Ovechkin left Sunday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets with an undisclosed injury early in the second period.
Ovechkin was tangled up with the Blue Jackets’ Raffi Torres about 6 minutes into the period and fell to the ice. After he got up, he grimaced and gingerly skated off the ice, heading straight to the locker room. During the second intermission, the Capitals announced he “may return” but did not indicate what the injury was.
Earlier in the period, Ovechkin was bumped by Columbus left wing Jason Chimera and he responded with a shove and players from both teams skated over to the scrum. Ovechkin, Chimera and Blue Jackets winger Jared Boll all received minors for roughing, and Boll also recieved a misconduct.
