DENVER (AP) -With Peter Budaj battling the flu, the Colorado Avalanche recalled Tyler Weiman from the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL on Friday to serve as the backup to Craig Anderson.
Budaj was ruled out for Friday night’s against Carolina because of the illness, and Weiman was on hand to back up Anderson should the need arise. Anderson has started all 10 games for the Avs this season.
The 25-year-old Weiman was 3-3 with a 2.16 goals against average and .916 save percentage in six games for the Monsters. He had 27 saves in registering his first shutout of the season, 1-0 over Houston on Wednesday, in his most recent outing.
Colorado’s fifth-round pick in the 2002 draft, Weiman has appeared in one NHL game, stopping all 10 shots that he faced when he came on in relief on Oct. 4, 2007, at Nashville.
