VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -Veteran Vancouver Canucks forwards Matt Pettinger, Jeff Cowan and Jason Krog were sent down to the American Hockey League after clearing waivers on Wednesday.
Pettinger, who has played 354 NHL games over seven seasons and is making $1.1 million this season and Krog were both sent to Vancouver's AHL affiliate in Manitoba.
Cowan, a tough guy who has played more than 400 NHL games since 2000, was sent to Peoria, the affiliate of the St. Louis Blues.
All three players are on one-way contracts, meaning they must be paid the full amount in the minor leagues but it won't count against the Canucks' salary cap while they're down.
Pettinger scored 36 goals over two seasons in Washington before struggling under new coach Bruce Boudreau last season, scoring just twice in 56 games before being traded to Vancouver, where he scored four times in 20 games.
Krog signed a $700,000 free-agent contract in Vancouver this summer after leading the AHL in scoring and being the MVP during both the regular season and playoffs last season.
eman Lawrence Nycholat will start the season on the injured reserve list after hurting his back during the final preseason game Sunday.
