HELSINKI (AP) -The Florida Panthers have picked Randy Sexton to be their new general manager.
The announcement was made Friday in Helsinki, where the Panthers faced the Chicago Blackhawks in their 2009-10 season opener.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 50-year-old Sexton joined the organization in January 2007 and previously served as Florida’s assistant GM. He handled the team’s offseason moves after Jacques Martin left the post to coach the Montreal Canadiens in June.
During the transition period, Sexton worked with Florida’s first team president, Bill Torrey, who led the Panthers’ general manager search.
Panthers president Michael Yormark called Sexton the “ideal individual to serve as our club’s new general manager.”
