BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) – Carolina Hurricanes center Jordan Staal has been helped off the ice with a right leg injury late in the third period of a preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres.
Staal was hurt Tuesday night when he was checked hard into the boards by defenseman Josh Gorges inside the Buffalo zone. Staal fell to the ice and lay on his side for several minutes while being treated by trainers.
He required help getting up and was unable to put any weight on his right leg.
The Hurricanes are resting Staal’s brother, Eric, who had surgery in July to repair a core muscle injury.
