VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) -The Vancouver Canucks have signed veteran free agent defenseman Mathieu Schneider to a one-year contract.
The team announced the deal on Friday, when it also acquired defensemen Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich from the San Jose Sharks.
The 40-year-old Schneider is coming off shoulder surgery. He had nine goals and 32 points in 67 games while splitting last season between Atlanta and Montreal.
He has 221 goals and 724 points in 1,264 games during a 20-year career with eight NHL teams.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Schneider made $5.75 million last season. His signing came within minutes of the Canucks’ trade that sent prospects Daniel Rahimi and Patrick White to San Jose for Ehrhoff and Lukowich.
