BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Rugged left wing Jeff Cowan has signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres, who are adding muscle to their roster this offseason.
Cowan is an eight-year NHL veteran but spent last season playing for Peoria in the American Hockey League. He previously played two years with Vancouver, where he combined for seven goals, four assists and 203 penalty minutes in 88 games.
Listed at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Cowan broke into the NHL with Calgary during the 1999-2000 season, and has also played for Atlanta and Los Angeles. In 413 career games, he has 47 goals, 34 assists and 695 penalty minutes.
The Sabres already have bulked up in free agency this summer by signing forward Mike Grier and defenseman Steve Montador.
