COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed coach Ken Hitchcock to a three-year contact extension, locking him in through the 2011-12 season.
In his first full season as Columbus' coach, the Blue Jackets set a franchise record for wins (34) and points (80) last year while going 34-36-12. Before that, Hitchcock coached the Dallas Stars for five seasons and parts of two others, winning the Stanley Cup in 1999. He also coached the Philadelphia Flyers from 2002-06.
The 56-year-old Hitchcock has a career NHL record of 470-314-117.
