EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -The Oilers acquired defenseman Allan Rourke and a third-round pick in the 2008 draft from the New York Islanders for a second-round pick on Thursday.
Rourke had one assist in the 11 games he played with New York last season. The 27-year-old also had five goals and 15 assists with minor league affiliate Bridgeport of the American Hockey League. He is likely to be sent to Edmonton’s minor-league team.
“We have added depth to our defense with the addition of Allan,” Oilers vice president of hockey operations Kevin Prendergast said in a statement. “He is a veteran of seven pro seasons, and will provide us with experience in Springfield.”
Rourke has a goal and four assists in 42 career games with Carolina and the Islanders.
