SCOREBOARD Sunday, April 22 New Jersey at Tampa Bay (1 p.m. EDT). The Devils have won the last two games of this series and can eliminate the Lightning with another victory in Game 6. Monday, April 23 Dallas at Vancouver (9 p.m. EDT). For the first time in their history, the Stars have come back from a 3-1 series deficit to force a Game 7 after posting a 2-0 win on Saturday night. STAR Saturday -Henrik Zetterberg, Red Wings, had two goals in Detroit's 5-1 victory over Calgary. RARE FEAT Daniel Cleary converted the first successful playoff penalty shot ever in Detroit during Saturday's 5-1 win over Calgary in Game 5 of the Western Conference quarterfinals. He attempted the first one for the Red Wings at home since 1937. At Toronto in 1988, Petr Klima scored on a penalty shot. BRICK WALL Marty Turco posted his third shutout of the Western Conference quarterfinals by making 21 saves in Dallas' 2-0 win over Vancouver in Game 6 on Saturday night. Only 12 goalies had recorded three shutouts in the same playoff series before Turco, who never had one heading into this series. ANOTHER INCIDENT Calgary backup goalie Jamie McLellan was ejected from Saturday's 5-1 loss at Detroit on Saturday after slashing Johan Franzen's midsection. McLennan, who replaced the ineffective Miikka Kiprusoff, was on the ice for less than a minute late in the third period before he was removed from the game with a match penalty and game misconduct. That decision might lead to a stiff suspension from the NHL, which gave the Islanders' Chris Simon a 25-game suspension for viciously swinging his stick last month. FINALLY Dallas ended a six-game home playoff losing streak with its 2-0 win over Vancouver in Game 6 of the Western Conference quarterfinals on Saturday night. The Stars hadn't won a home playoff game since Game 3 of their first-round series against Colorado in 2004. The skid was one short of the NHL record. INJURED andre Burrows, who appeared to slash the Stars captain's left leg only seconds earlier. SLUMPING Ruslan Fedotenko, one of the unsung heroes during Tampa Bay's Stanley Cup run in 2004, has no points through the first five games of the Lightning's quarterfinal series with New Jersey and has scored just one goal in his last 29 games. SPEAKING ``We'll find out if momentum matters. We've frustrated them a little bit. Game 7 will be the biggest challenge.'' - Goalie Marty Turco on Dallas rebounding from a 3-1 series deficit to force a Game 7 of the Western Conference quarterfinals against Vancouver. Turco posted his third shutout of the series in Game 6 on Saturday night, making 21 saves in the Stars' 2-0 victory. |
