BOSTON (AP) -Bruins defenseman Matt Hunwick has had his spleen removed after feeling abdominal pain.
He had the surgery Saturday afternoon after not feeling well following a morning team meeting, ahead of Game 2 of the Eastern Conference playoff series against the Montreal Canadiens.
He is expected to make a full recovery within three months, the team said.
The club said Hunwick hurt his spleen when he was checked during the second period of Boston’s 4-2 win on Thursday night. Tests revealed the condition on Friday and he was monitored.
The 23-year-old Hunwick had six goals and 21 assists in 53 games for Boston this season.
