PITTSBURGH (AP) -Marian Gaborik left the New York Rangers’ game against Pittsburgh on Friday night midway through the first period after only 4 minutes of ice time.
Gaborik, who leads the Rangers in goals (35) and points (69), missed a home game Wednesday night against Nashville after lacerating his right thigh during a collision with goalie Henrik Lundqvist in practice a day before.
Gaborik was a game-time decision Friday, started the game but took only six shifts – only one for 17 seconds over the final 8 minutes of the first period. He will not return.
The Rangers lost another player to a cut by a skate Friday. Defenseman Michael Del Zotto collided with Penguins center Evgeni Malkin near the boards and fell on Malkin’s skate with the side of his abdomen. He sustained what team officials termed “a significant laceration” and will not return.
