SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -Sharks defenseman Rob Blake will be out of San Jose’s lineup for at least two games after getting hit in the face with a puck.
Blake, a 39-year-old veteran in his first season with San Jose, was hit by a deflection off his own stick during the first period of the Sharks’ loss to Calgary on Thursday.
The Sharks weren’t specific about the nature of Blake’s injury, but the defenseman had some minor wiring in his jaw. He’s expected to return shortly after next weekend’s All-Star break.
Blake has seven goals and 22 assists with a plus-13 rating and 73 penalty minutes in 43 games with the Sharks. His resurgent play has been a major factor in San Jose’s outstanding start.
San Jose faced the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night without Blake and fellow defenseman Brad Lukowich, who’s expected to return from sports hernia surgery after the All-Star break.
