ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -Backup goalie Brent Johnson rejoined the Washington Capitals on Saturday after a one-game rehab assignment with the AHL’s Hershey Bears, and goalie Frederic Cassivi was sent to the minors.
Johnson hasn’t played for Washington since spraining his left knee against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Dec. 27. He is 3-4-1 this season.
Johnson made 37 saves Friday in Hershey’s 3-1 loss to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The day after Johnson was hurt, the Capitals recalled Cassivi from Hershey to back up No. 1 goalie Olie Kolzig. Cassivi did not play.
The Capitals have won four of their last five games. They next play at home Sunday against the Philadelphia Flyers.
