The injury to the agitating forward’s right knee is not believed to be serious, but he was due to be examined by a second doctor – team physician and orthopedic surgeon Dr. Andrew Feldman – at Madison Square Garden, where Monday night’s game was being played.
Avery was seen by Dr. Anthony Maddalo, a team assistant physician, after he collided knee on knee with fellow Rangers forward Ryan Callahan on Monday morning. He was not given an MRI then.
“He banged up his knee but it’s not serious,” Rangers coach John Tortorella said before Avery was seen by the second doctor.
