White House Visit
Pittsburgh, PA – The Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins will visit with President Barack Obama in the White House on Thursday, two days before they report to training camp.
The 6 p.m. ceremony will occur two hours before Pittsburgh’s other championship team, the Super Bowl-winning Steelers, opens the regular season at home against the Tennessee Titans.
The Penguins won their first Stanley Cup since 1992, rallying from a 3-2 series deficit to defeat the reigning champion Detroit Red Wings in the finals. The Penguins became the first team since 1971 to win a finals Game 7 on the road.
Leading the Penguins’ visit will be Sidney Crosby, who at age 21 became the youngest captain of a Stanley Cup winner.
