Sabres sign O’Reilly to massive deal
BUFFALO, NY (The Spread) – The Sabres have signed Ryan O’Reilly to a massive contract but remain long shots to win the 2016 Stanley Cup.
O’Reilly signed a seven-year, $52.5 million contract with Buffalo on Friday and according to Renaud Levoie, the deal includes a No-Movement Clause. What that essentially means is that O’Reilly cannot be moved from the NHL without his consent. The deal is also 87% bonuses as O’Reilly is expected to make a million dollars in salary each season with all the rest of the money being paid out in signing bonus money.
In six seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, O’Reilly racked up 246 points, 90 goals and 156 assists in 427 games played. He said recently that he was eager to take on a leadership role and he’ll receive that opportunity with the Sabres.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, the Sabres are 175/1 long shots to win the 2016 Stanley Cup. Only the Coyotes have worse odds at 200/1, while the defending champion Blackhawks are 13/2 favorites to win it all again next year.
