The Oilers stunned the Ducks in Game 1 by picking up a 5-3 win on the road. Edmonton has now won four of its last five games against Anaheim. The Oilers come into tonight’s game 52-27-10 overall and 25-15-5 on the road. The Ducks are 50-24-13 overall and 31-9-4 at home.
The Oilers took Game 1 of the series behind a four-goal third period. Adam Larsson scored twice in the period, including the game-winning goal with just under five minutes to play. The Oilers were out-shot (36-32), out-hit (46-27) and lost the faceoff battle (38-29), but still managed to win. John Gibson was shaky in net for the Ducks, making just 27 saves while stopping only 87.1 percent of the shots he faced.
The Ducks have something to think about in net, as Gibson hasn’t been terribly reliable. He has allowed four goals in two of his last three games. Still, the Ducks won most statistical categories in Game 1 and probably will do the same in Game 2 at home. That should lead them to a win tonight. They were the more physical team on Wednesday and had more scoring opportunities. That should pay off today.
