The Sharks won Game 1 of the series, 3-2 in OT. These two have now split their six meetings this season, with the road team winning four of the six meetings. Edmonton comes into tonight 47-26-10 overall and 25-12-5 at home. San Jose is now 47-29-7 overall and 21-18-3 on the road.
Edmonton actually took a 2-0 lead in Game 1, as Oscar Klefbom and Milan Lucic scored in the first period, but then things took a turn for the worse. Over the next two periods, San Jose would hold a 28-7 edge in shots, which led to goals from Joel Ward and Paul Martin. In overtime, Melker Karlsson found the net 16 minutes in to give San Jose the win.
San Jose didn’t get a great effort from goalie Martin Jones and the Sharks still won. They dominated play over the last two periods and were constantly hitting Cam Talbot with shots on goal. San Jose had an 18-9 edge in takeaways and a 25-19 edge in faceoffs. The Sharks seem like the better team and I think that will play out again tonight, putting the Oilers in a big hole.
