Ovechkin targets another major milestone
It’s always a treat to see Eastern Conference powerhouses Pittsburgh and Washington do battle. Tonight’s meeting in the nation’s capital, however, should have even more juice than usual.
Two of the hottest teams in hockey renew hostilities at 8 p.m. ET. Online sports book Bovada.lv gives Barry Trotz’s bunch odds of -110 to take care of business at home. The Penguins, on the other hand, enter the Verizon Center as +130 underdogs.

On Monday, Washington (26-9-5) matched its season-high winning streak of six games by disposing of Montreal. Alex Ovechkin contributed one goal and two assists in the 4-1 triumph, pushing his career point total to 999. The six-time recipient of the Maurice Richard Trophy relishes facing the Pens, too, as he boasts 28 tallies in 46 matches against them.
Meanwhile, Sidney Crosby continues to carry the torch for the Steel City. The 29-year-old center’s on pace for a career-best 60 goals. He’s not the only one piling up big numbers, either. Evgeni Malkin’s 27 assists rank third among all NHL forwards.

Of course, Caps netminder Braden Holtby couldn’t care less about such scoring prowess on the opposing side. With four shutouts in his past 12 starts, the Saskatchewan native is wholly capable of preventing the Penguins (26-8-5) from nabbing their sixth victory in a row. Considering these two combatants’ intimate familiarity with each other, though, we seem destined for a one-goal affair.
