ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -New general manager Martin Mayhew will make all the football decisions for the Detroit Lions.
Mayhew and new president Tom Lewand met the media Tuesday and both said their combined 21 years with the franchise and seeing the mistakes that were made under previous president Matt Millen makes them the best men to turn it around.
Both will report to team owner William Clay Ford.
The team became the first in NFL history to go 0-16 after Sunday’s 31-21 loss at Green Bay.
The Lions, who haven’t had a winning season since 2000, fired coach Rod Marinelli on Monday after his teams went 10-38 in three years. Lewand said the team hopes to hire a new coach “as expeditiously as possible.”
