MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Workers are scrambling to remove snow from bleachers, concourses and the field at the University of Minnesota stadium in time for Monday night’s Vikings game with the Chicago Bears.
The university got word Tuesday that it would host the NFL game because the snow-damaged Metrodome roof won’t be repaired in time. The accident forced the Vikings to play the Giants in Detroit this past Monday.
Now, the focus is on TCF Bank Stadium – and the daunting task of clearing snow that is piled in five-foot drifts in some areas. Workers also have to enclose concession stands to keep them warm.
Officials also have to figure out ticketing issues. TCF Bank Stadium has a seating capacity of about 50,000 – about 13,000 fewer seats than are available at the Metrodome.
