CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) -A former Denver Broncos player charged in a fatal hit-and-run postponed entering a plea on Thursday and is now expected to enter one on Jan. 15.
Billy Jenkins has been charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene, driving under the influence and failure to provide insurance.
Authorities say 51-year-old Tracy Gill died when his scooter was rear-ended Aug. 28 in the Denver suburb of Aurora.
Jenkins was to enter a plea Thursday but his attorney said he had additional information to give prosecutors. He didn’t elaborate.
Jenkins was on the St. Louis Rams’ Super Bowl championship team in 1999 and played for the Broncos in 2000-01. He retired in 2002.
He is free on $50,000 bail. Jenkins could be sentenced to eight to 12 years in prison if convicted on all counts.
