FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez might be able to play in New York’s next game after spraining the posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Coach Rex Ryan says an MRI exam on Friday revealed the severity of the injury, and called it “encouraging news.” Ryan says Sanchez will wear a brace to stabilize the knee, and is optimistic the rookie could be ready to go against the Buccaneers at Tampa Bay on Dec. 13.
Sanchez was injured when he dived headfirst on an 8-yard run early in the third quarter of a 19-13 win over Buffalo on Thursday night.
He left two plays later and was replaced by Kellen Clemens.
The injury came two days after Ryan brought in Yankees manager Joe Girardi to teach Sanchez how to slide correctly.
