BEREA, Ohio (AP) -Cleveland Browns running back Jamal Lewis has been placed on injured reserve with post-concussion symptoms, prematurely ending his NFL career.
Lewis, who announced last month that he planned to retire after this season, sustained an unspecified head injury in Sunday\’s loss at Cincinnati. Coach Eric Mangini, who failed to mention Lewis\’ injury during two news conferences this week, said in a statement on Wednesday that after consulting with doctors the team decided to place Lewis on IR.
The club did the same with safety Brodney Pool, who suffered at least his fourth known concussion against the Bengals.
Lewis rushed for 10,607 career yards, ranking him 21st on the NFL\’s all-time list.
