FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -New York Jets defensive line coach Kerry Locklin has left the team in what coach Rex Ryan calls a “mutual decision.”
Locklin was hired by Ryan, a longtime friend, after nine seasons as the defensive line coach at Fresno State. The head coach decided Monday that the move “was the best thing for both of us moving forward.”
Ryan would not go so far as to say Locklin was fired, but said, “There were some disagreements. … There were some personal issues.”
Defensive assistant Jeff Weeks and pass rushing instructor Chuck Smith will now handle the defensive line, with Ryan overseeing it.
The move comes after the Jets’ defense struggled with missed tackles in New York’s 24-22 loss to Jacksonville on Sunday.
