LANDOVER, Md. (AP) -Running back Clinton Portis was on the active roster for the Washington Redskins’ game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night despite a knee injury that kept him from practicing all week.
Portis entered the week second in the NFL in yards rushing with 995, including 121 in a victory over Dallas on Sept. 28.
He sprained his left knee in Washington’s previous game, a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 3.
The Redskins are coming off a bye week.
Notable inactives for Washington were cornerback Shawn Springs (calf) and defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery (Achilles’ heel). It’s the fourth consecutive game missed by Springs, and sixth overall this season. He’ll again be replaced in the starting lineup by Fred Smoot.
Defensive end Jason Taylor was on the Redskins’ active roster but not starting as he returned from a calf injury. Demetric Evans took his spot.
