HOUSTON (AP) -The Houston Texans signed Craig Nall on Tuesday to add depth at quarterback with starter Matt Schaub ailing after helmet-to-helmet hits in consecutive games.
Nall was released by Buffalo before the season, but re-signed after quarterback J.P. Losman was injured in Week 3. The Bills released him again Oct. 19.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Nall spent 2002-05 in Green Bay when current Texans offensive coordinator Mike Sherman was head coach there.
Texans coach Gary Kubiak said Monday that Schaub was suffering headaches and would be listed as day to day this week after a blow to the head against the Chargers on Sunday. He was knocked out of the previous week’s game against Tennessee.
The Texans’ other quarterbacks are Sage Rosenfels and Shane Boyd, who was signed to the practice squad last week.
Nall, a fifth-round pick in 2002, is 23-of-33 for 314 yards and four touchdowns in six career games. He spent the spring of 2003 in the NFL Europe.
Receiver Harry Williams was released to make room for Nall on the roster.
