LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) – Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith remains hopeful Jay Cutler will return from his concussion this week against the Seattle Seahawks.
Then again, he was confident his quarterback would be ready for Sunday’s game at Carolina. Instead, the Bears went with Todd Collins, who threw four interceptions before getting yanked for Caleb Hanie on the way to a 23-6 victory.
Smith says the Bears are evaluating Cutler daily. Cutler practiced on a limited basis last week after a nine-sack first half in a loss to the New York Giants that left him with a concussion. He was examined by team and independent doctors before the Bears announced they were going with the veteran Collins against the Panthers.
Smith wouldn’t say who would start this week if Cutler can’t go.
