 FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) - The Atlanta Falcons are in uncharted territory.
Then again, this feels downright routine.
Since Thomas Dimitroff and Mike Smith took over as general manager and coach in 2008, the Falcons are tied for the second-most wins in the regular season, their 48-21 record surpassed only by the New England Patriots (51-18).
Atlanta improved to 5-0 for the first time in franchise history with a 24-17 victory at Washington on Sunday. Matt Ryan had another big game, and Tony Gonzalez hardly looked like someone who is leaning toward retirement at the end of the year. Also, the defense came up with some huge plays in the second half, knocking Redskins rookie Robert Griffin III out of the game and making two interceptions in the closing minutes to preserve the win.
