NEW YORK (AP) – Some NFL players just can’t keep their mouths shut on the field.
From pregame warmups to the final snap, insults and jokes are shouted between opponents with each looking to get under the other’s skin.
Some players use it for motivation, while others ignore it. Looks, abilities and speech are all fair game. Just one rule: Mothers are off limits.
Trash talking in the NFL is nothing new, but it has been ramped up the past few years by players using social media such as Twitter to intimidate and distract.
New York Jets defensive end Trevor Pryce says Twitter has taken trash talk “to a whole new level.” Cincinnati’s Terrell Owens uses the social media frequently to get his point across and give “your side of the story.”
