METAIRIE, La. (AP) -The Saints brought back Joey Harrington as their third quarterback on Wednesday.
Harrington, a former third overall draft choice by Detroit in 2002, first joined New Orleans on Sept. 19, shortly before a game at Denver, but was released last week when injuries left the Saints short at other positions.
Harrington has spent six seasons in the NFL. He played for Miami in 2006 and for Atlanta last season.
He appeared in 12 games for the Falcons, completing nearly 62 percent of his passes for 2,215 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions.
In New Orleans, he’ll be backing up Drew Brees and Mark Brunell.
To make room for Harrington on the active roster, New Orleans waived tight end Buck Ortega and later re-signed him to the practice squad.
