FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) – Rex Ryan has had it with his team’s undisciplined play.
The New York Jets’ coach used some “tough love” during practice Thursday, making defensive players who committed a penalty stand and watch while the other 10 players had to do a set of 10 push-ups.
That happened three times, according to defensive coordinator Mike Pettine and several players. It made practice run about 10 minutes longer than usual.
Ryan says it was “back to grade school” after the Jets committed 14 penalties in their season-opening 10-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night.
Offensive players were also required to repeat plays until they were successful, particularly on third down. The Jets were 1 for 11 in that situation against the Ravens.
