METAIRIE, La. (AP) – Jermon Bushrod says he doesn’t like to use the word “comfortable,” at least not when talking about playing left tackle for the New Orleans Saints.
After all, he’s protecting Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees from some of the best pass rushers in the league.
As Bushrod begins his second season as a starter, he’s at least performing confidently as Brees’ blind-side protector. He was often left one-on-one with Minnesota Vikings star defensive end Jared Allen in the Saints’ season-opening win last week, and Allen didn’t register a sack.
Bushrod stepped in last season without having previously played an offensive snap because of an injury to Jammal Brown. The Saints traded Brown in the offseason, but drafted former USC left tackle Charles Brown.
