BEREA, Ohio (AP) -Cleveland Browns starting safety Sean Jones will have arthroscopic knee surgery and likely be sidelined for at least one month.
Jones, who injured his knee in the exhibition opener, will have surgery Thursday, coach Romeo Crennel said Wednesday.
It’s another blow to a defense that gave up nearly 500 yards in a season-opening loss to Dallas. Last week, linebacker Antwan Peek sustained a season-ending knee injury.
Jones started all 16 games in each of the past two seasons. He had five interceptions last season for a defense that ranked 30th overall.
Crennel said safety Brodney Pool, who missed Sunday’s game because of a concussion, planned to practice Wednesday. The Browns play Pittsburgh on Sunday night.
