ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) -Lions coach Jim Schwartz says the players remaining after the team cuts its roster to the NFL-mandated 53 won’t necessarily be the ones who head into the regular season.
Finishing last season with the league’s worst record gives the Lions first right to waiver claims on players released by other teams at the Saturday evening deadline.
Schwartz said Friday the Lions have a “pretty good” idea of they’ll release. But he added Detroit will be evaluating players let go by other franchises.
And he’s quick to add that the team will be reevaluted throughout the season as it works to rebuild from the NFL’s first-ever 0-16 season.
