ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) – The Buffalo Bills have signed veteran quarterback Kyle Orton and punter Colton Schmidt, while cutting 10 players to establish their 53-man roster.
Receiver T.J. Graham, a third-round pick in the 2012 draft, and veteran offensive lineman Doug Legursky were among the notable players released on Saturday. Also cut was second-year backup quarterback Jeff Tuel.
Orton’s addition was the biggest move made the Bills, who finally ended a lengthy search for an established veteran to play behind second-year starter EJ Manuel. Orton is a nine-year veteran who spent the past two seasons with Dallas.
Also cut were safeties Deon Broomfield and Kenny Ladler; linebacker Jimmy Gaines; receiver Caleb Holley; defensive ends Ikponmwosa Igbinosun and Bryan Johnson and guard Antoine McLain.
Buffalo opens the season at Chicago on Sept. 7.
