INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indianapolis Colts president Bill Polian says he believes NFL officials can make simple adjustments to fix the concerns about the repositioned umpires.
Colts quarterback Peyton Manning was visibly frustrated Thursday night at Green Bay when he was twice called for illegal snaps because the umpire had not gotten into position.
It was the first noticeable problem the Colts had with their no-huddle offense during the preseason, and Polian acknowledges the Colts were “pushing” it to see how things might work under regular-season conditions.
During the offseason, the competition committee voted to move the umpire from near the linebackers to behind the deepest running back. The NFL says it is intended to improve safety.
