CINCINNATI (AP) -The Cincinnati Bengals signed veteran linebacker Lemar Marshall on Thursday, two days after he was released by the Washington Redskins.
Marshall, a Cincinnati native who started 45 games over the past three seasons for the Redskins, signed a one-year contract, the Bengals said.
Cincinnati released second-year tight end Erik Jensen, signed as a free agent on Aug. 3.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Marshall is a sixth-year NFL player who played here for St. Xavier High School and then at Michigan State. He signed as a college free agent with Tampa Bay in 1999, and made his NFL playing debut with the Redskins in 2002.
In 2005, Marshall anchored the middle of the defense as the Redskins made the playoffs for the first time in six years, but his play fell off last year, when he had knee and ankle injuries.
He has 343 tackles, 5.5 sacks and four interceptions in 75 games. He had 119 tackles with 1.5 sacks last season.
