TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt liked what he saw from Matt Leinart in the Cardinals preseason opener in Pittsburgh.
Whisenhunt has turned up the pressure on Leinart in training camp by saying Brian St. Pierre has a chance to be the No. 2 quarterback behind Kurt Warner.
Leinart says he’s taken it all in stride, and his performance in Thursday night’s 20-10 loss impressed the coach.
Whisenhunt said Leinart “really made some big-time throws” while he was in the game.
Meanwhile, wide receiver Steve Breaston was to undergo a precautionary MRI because of soreness and stiffness in his knee.
The Cardinals resume their training camp in Flagstaff on Sunday.
