CORTLAND, N.Y. (AP) -Matt Slauson and Vladimir Ducasse are The Odd Couple of the New York Jets’ offensive line.
They’re two big men from different parts of the world who have little in common, including their paths to the NFL. Even communicating can be a challenge because the American Slauson speaks with a stutter and English isn’t the first language of Ducasse, who is from Haiti.
Still, their desire to win the starting job at left guard has bonded them.
Slauson will start at left guard – a spot vacated then the Jets cut perennial Pro Bowl pick Alan Faneca – in the preseason opener against the Giants on Monday. Still, offensive line coach Bill Callahan says this competition isn’t close to being decided.
